Feeling bamboozled by all the different birth prep courses and workshops available to help you prepare to meet your baby? Thinking about NCT 'coz that's where you meet your mum-friends, right? You might do the free one up at the hospital, but you've heard it's a bit meh... You'd like to try hypnobirthing but you're not quite sure if it'll live up to the hype... I mean from what you've seen on One Born, it's gonna take more than a bit of whale music and fairy lights to get that baby out...
Well, let me offer you a bit of help... I'll be straight with you, Hypnobirthing: The BirthWright Way is not for everyone and here are 5 reasons why...
Hypnobirthing: The BirthWright Way is not for you if:
1) You think that birth is best left in the hands of the experts...
Noooooo! This is your baby, your body and your birth - it’s only YOU who gets to decide how your birth will be. Hypnobirthing: The BirthWright Way will teach you how to ask all the right questions to ensure that you make informed decisions which are right for you and your baby. You are not another tick-box exercise.
2) You’re booked in for a C-Section and don't think there's any point.
Here's the thing: Hypnobirthing The BirthWright Way will help you however you decide to give birth to your baby. Mums who’ve opted to give birth to their babies via Caesarean section will tell you just how much the skills they learnt with me, supported them to have a calm, confident and positive birthing experience. We will spend time discussing options for a gentle, mother-focused Caesarean birth, and believe me, you have many.
3) You think that 'Hypnobirthing' is a magic wand…
Erm… yeah, sorry - I ain’t got a magic wand - you’re gonna have work at this… ALL the best birth stories say something along the lines of: “….because we practised…. LOTS.” This means, that by the time your labour begins, all of ‘the things’ will simply come naturally to you, as the hard work has already been done. But don’t worry, there’s loads you can achieve in just 5 minutes a day!
4) You haven't got time to practise: you’ve got the nursery to decorate, furniture to build and the buggy to choose…
Let me break it to you gently: your baby will most likely sleep in your room for at least the first 6 months, possibly even the first 3 years and most probably in your bed (yup - it’s called co-sleeping - check it out); your baby will hate the buggy and will want to be held and carried for at least the first 6 weeks.
Top tips:
i) Research the ‘Fourth Trimester’;
ii) Ignore Piers Morgan - he's a dick - and get in touch with Mel @Wrapahug and learn how to ‘wear’ your baby;
iii) Invest your time wisely, preferably in Hypnobirthing The BirthWright Way, so that you are fully prepared for a confident, calm and positive birth and postnatal experience.
5) You think that investing your time and money preparing for the birth of your baby is totally pointless because you'll probably just end up begging for an epidural or be whisked off to theatre, like you’ve seen on One Born…
I get it… Bar one, maybe two genuinely lovely births, the producers of that goddam show make birth look absolutely terrifying! The bright lights, the medical equipment, the scrubs, the panic, the constant meddling with vaginas, the interventions, the beds, the screaming and constant talk of pain: horror story, after horror story, after horror story… I get it.
Now, breathe…
I’m going to let you in on a little secret: birth really doesn’t have to be like all those horror stories.
Hypnobirthing The BirthWright Way will introduce you to a new way of thinking about, taking about and preparing for birth and parenthood which puts YOU in control; which educates you and supports you to feel calm, relaxed, comfortable and safe as you prepare to give birth to your baby and become parents.
I work with women from week 20 onwards, although most women and often their partners, join me between 28-32 weeks of pregnancy and I've taught women at 36, 37, 38 and even 40 weeks, who have all benefited enormously from their practice. Whilst there is absolutely no rush what-so-ever, I’ll just ask you this: what are you waiting for?
I am totally dedicated to helping pregnant women, just like you, to overcome your fears and anxieties around giving birth. I will EDUCATE and EMPOWER you to have the SAFEST, CALMEST, most RELAXED and POSITIVE birthing experience possible for YOU and YOUR baby.
This is so important to me because I want you to know that birth doesn't have to be like all those horror stories.
Sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?
